How To Make Butter Like A Pro

I’ve been thinking about making my own butter for a while now.  So why haven’t I? Simple, I thought it was ubber hard to do. Turns out making your own butter isn’t hard at all.  So grab your gloves, bucket and churn. I’m kidding. All you need is a stand mixer, heavy cream and about 15 minutes.

Why make my own butter when I can just go to the store and buy it? It’s pretty simple actually. I love butter.. real butter not the yellow stuff that comes in those tubs. Don’t get me wrong margarine has it’s place in some things but butter… real butter that’s what I grew up eating and love so very much.  You see my mom is German and eating open faced sandwiches with meat or jam on German bread or Brotchen  with sweet creamy butter was what we had for breakfast.

Why Should you make your own Butter??

The benefits to making your own butter? Other than the satisfaction you get from making it?? You know exactly what’s in it.. And hey plus you get buttermilk out of the deal too.. I made my butter without salt. That was/is a personal choice.

Put the buttermilk in a container like a Mason Jar and refrigerate for no more than 3 weeks. Put your newly made butter in a container of your choice and refrigerate for no more than 3 weeks if you can keep it that long.. I know mine wont last that long. Mine might last a week.. maybe.. probably not though. I plan on do some baking.

Is butter good for you? Butter like anything else you eat should be eaten in moderation. Don’t be afraid of butter. Of course if you’re reading this you already know how good butter is and you’re here to learn how to make it for yourself.. So let’s get to it..

Ingredients:

1 3/4 cups Heavy Cream

Stand Mixer

Container to keep your butter in.

Mason Jar for the buttermilk

Fine mesh Strainer

Measuring cup

Spatula

In a measuring cup add 1 3/4 cup Heavy Cream.

Mix on high…

It starts to look like Whipped Cream. If you’re making whipped cream you can add sugar at this point, whip a little more than stop. But we are making butter so keep on going..

Now we have curdled cream.. This is what we want.. see the buttermilk at the bottom of the bowl??

You know you have butter when it’s all stuck to your mixers whisk like this…

Now it’s time to strain and rinse.  Pour the butter milk through a fine mesh strainer and if you’re keeping it I suggest using a mason jar or something like it.

Place the butter in the fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear.

Find a container to put your newly made butter in and enjoy!!
